Anxiety but why?

There are infinite reasons which give us exorbitant energy to live this life in a way that can help us satisfy a significant purpose. We want to learn, grow, to do extremely good in our career, to have peace in our relations, to have an overwhelming feel that can make us understand the depth of the breathe that we are taking every moment. Life is all about experience. We misinterpret our life – to begin with birth and to end with death. Actually life has no start and no end. We all are living in this materialistic world, we are very far from spirituality. We are always in hope of getting something. One human being is serving another human being. We are in one of the nameless cycle of serving others. A teacher serves his teachings to his student, a student serves his attention to his teacher, an employee serves his employer, employer serves his clients to get business, a friend serves his friend by listening his heart in and out, the other friend serves him by giving his affection and love. We all are after designations, someone wants to become president, someone wants to become CEO, someone wants to become best friend, someone wants to become best husband or someone wants to become Lord. As long as we are attached to these designations, we are attached to the body. But we are not this body, and realizing this, is the first stage in spiritual realization.

As we are very far from this other unrecognized world, most of us are dealing with two major events of our life, the Career and the Relations around us. Both exist in one's life in one or the other way. We have no choice but to create a balance between the two. But is it possible in real life? If one gets affected, the other have to suffer. Some might think that if his/her career is in good path, he/she can manage the personal relations. On the other hand, some think that if he/she has soothing relations, the career could be managed. But somehow the truth is, both are the two tyres of a bicycle. Both have the same power that can increase your anxiety level like anything. Yet again the percentage may vary from person to person, depending on their level of emotions. But it is also true that drowning in any of these will affect us surely, there is no escape.

My question is -  why are we not able to handle all these things. Someday we say that “if my career is there then no anxiety can touch me”. We become so confident, we feel that we are nothing but a perpetually performing robot. It is good to feel confident if we are good in corporate life and it is very necessary to survive. But, we the one who say these, become weak when our relations are not on track. Anxiety is killing us when something bad is happening in our corporate life, and we feel like quitting everything. Depression hits so hard that we become blind for a while. We become so numb that we are not even able to apply our expertise. We want to stop for sometime, but we cannot because if we stopped here, then there is no go. At that moment, we feel to have someone who can help us stand again, someone who can hold our hand and tell us, “Dear, this is not the end”, someone who can make us realize about the energy and the attitude we have, to do tremendously good. Here again we are in need of our close relations.

In the same way this anxiety also kills us when there is something wrong in our relations. We feel like asking questions related to "WHY", but in reality every question doesn't have answers. We broke down into pieces, we again start questioning ourselves, we again are not able to put all our affection and love to mend that relation, we become numb again, again feel like giving up on everything. At this moment we want an invisible support from our career. We want our career to hold us and make us think positive again, to give us energy so that we can create a new strong unbreakable bond with the one we have lost. We think our another life, corporate life can save us here.

But the truth is, these two are "made for each other". One cannot survive without the other. Yes we can try to make sure that these two not affect each other but at the end we all are humans. We cannot control everything.

So one can never say that, I have my career, I don't need anyone or I have my closed relations with me, I don't want any successful career. The point is finding out the ways that can help us to excel in both, to find out the ways that can help us to overcome our anxiety and depression. Someone really need to say "I need help".

The platform is open, if anybody has any suggestions or any thought to this are most welcome.

  4. Nandini, this was a good read. You should also write some non-philosophical things. I think you will do good in that as well. However, i have a question - "What do you think is the solution to depression?"
